There are many Native American/First Nations people that I admire. I don't know why the terrible things happened. Sometimes the terrible things happen to us individually, and sometimes they happen to Nations. I can mourn, and I can attempt to make the world better. That is all we can do. We need healing, and we need to be connected. Being against any group of people, does not bring the healing and peace that we need.

Those were different times, and the history is there to tell the story of our peaceful ways. When President Clinton saw the doc he said he wanted people to think about it... the humanity and compassion of that woman.. and we, he said, had the opportunity to make that same choice with Chief Joseph and we did not. I want people to think about that, he said. But of course CNN wasn't there to pick THAT up.
I am Shawnee and not sure how I feel about Bird Woman or Pocohantas. i have no admiration for Lewis & Clark. How many people were put in danger because she lead those white men ? As a teen I hitch-hiked with my rez dog across the USA several times. no matter what I would never lead outsiders into the Nations.
